This is Tibetan monk Champa Tenzin.

He became a national and international hero following his actions at the Lhasa pro-independence demonstration on 1st October 1987 when he risked his own life to save Tibetans being held in a blazing Chinese police station.

In March 1988 he was found in circumstances suggesting foul play with a rope around his neck.

Despite western perceptions of the Tibetan struggle being non-violent, Tibetans, including this Tibetan Nun, are prepared to use force when necessary.
